I wanted to post some pictures of the mattress project! The mattresses were ordered thru and delivered by Denver Mattress Company at Furniture Row in Draper, UT.
The truck (a BIG truck) arrived around 4:30 PM on Tuesday, August 14th.
Cherie and some of her children, (Todd, Trent, Tiffany, and Tevin) had taken all the old mattresses out of the rooms and vacuumed in preparation for the delivery.
Old mattresses. Just a few to haul away!
So THIS is the reason for all those squeaky bouncy, tosses and turns!
Twin beds do not have matching existing steel frames. One hooks into headboard and footboard and the other headboard is just set behind the standard twin frame. The footboard is under one of the beds as there is no way to attach it. We discussed using bunk board foundations (2") but I was told by the mattress rep that they would not be good long-term support if adults will be sleeping on the beds.
The twin beds now have a 9" foundation. As you can see the 9" foundation comes to the bottom of the headboard. The height of the new twins are approx. 25-26 in off floor which is the standard height for beds. This height makes it easier to sit and stand up from the mattress. The foundations can be changed to 5" foundation or platform frames if we are not happy with the height. The Euro Top hybrid mattresses (wrapped coils on bottom with pillow top) are more comfortable than just a basic coil mattress.
This is the makeshift foundation that was under the full size mattress downstairs. What is this? Dad? What were you thinking? Ha-ha.
Cleared out old boards that were stored under bed. (Probably from original project to build the "custom" foundation."
There is a big hole in the wall under this bed. It is about 4 logs over from the left of the bed frame..
This mattress is 13" with a 9" foundation. The bed is about the same height as it was before!
Removed this crib from under the upstairs queen bed. Wow, how long has this been under there?
Yup, just a little bit dusty and dirty.
Carpet under all beds needed a good vacuuming! Hot, sweaty, and dusty job, but so nice to know it's clean under the beds!
This brass headboard is for a full bed but is being used on a queen mattress frame. We attached it to the left so it isn't blocking the light switch and outlet anymore.
Removing queen mattress foundation. These things don't bend! We were wondering how it got up there!
It was extremely tight and tricky to get the queen bed and foundation up the stairs. We did have to remove the posts from the handrail. The foundation had to go up vertically from the side of the stairs.
This mattress could literally be folded in half!
Two old crib mattresses under the bed as well as the mattress in crib were thrown out. I asked the delivery guy how to tell if a mattress is still good or not. He said if it's older than 8 years old, throw it out!
I brought my Oreck vacuum and a handheld vacuum to be sure we could get into all the nooks and cranny's.
Thoroughly cleaned the crib.
With a platform frame, a foundation isn't needed. There are wood slats that were placed horizontally across the frame to provide support. (I forgot to snap a picture.)
Both beds in the "crib room" have the head on the window side of the room. Please feel free to change the orientation. It worked out nicely to have it this way since we wanted the crib away from the window and it made the room feel more open. The comforter and shams were already clean and we did not wash them!
To protect our investment of 6 new mattresses, besides the zippered mattress protectors, each bed also has a new mattress pad. This adds to the cozy comfort of the mattress when sleeping. Plus they can be removed for washing. Many of the beds had pillows with shams, but not sleeping pillows. The beds now also have new pillows with zippered protectors. The pillows can be used with your own pillow cover. Of course, you can also grab a pillow out of the loft closet.
All mattress pads except one looked about like this and were thrown out. The pad on the downstairs full bed was in decent condition and it was washed and put in a bag on the trunks. That pad had a plastic backing and since the zippered protector is waterproof a plastic backing on the pad is not necessary.
i thought there was a dresser in this room for the changing pad to be placed on, but I was mistaken. However, the changing pad can be used on the bed for changing. Please inform your family members to use their own crib sheets, waterproof pads, changing cover, and not the sheets that are part of the crib set.
Baby Claire. (Tyler and Cecilly's baby and my first granddaughter.)
Good-bye old, old, old mattresses!
My boys had to cut one tree down that would not permit the truck to pass through to the cabin. We are sorry we had to do that. We had no idea it would be such a big truck. The boys first tried to use one of the saws, but it got stuck (we need to replace the blade that broke!) and then they were finally able to chop it down with the axe.
The mattress crew! (Todd, Trent, Tevin, me, Tiffany) I tried to remember to cover everything in this blog post. There was a lot going on to take care of. Please do not hesitate to voice opinions, your questions, or your concerns about the mattresses. The mattresses have a 15-year warranty as long as the tags are on and they are not stained. We also have a 365-day guarantee, so we can exchange mattresses or foundations if needed. You are free to email me at cheriealvord@gmail.com.
Seeing these photos again after 4 years have passed, I realize all the cabin overnighters who have enjoyed the new beds owe you and your family a big Thank You!
If you haven't heard of this site, before, Wayfair has some really great prices, so you might want to check it out when exploring for new bedding. This comes as a comforter or a duvet. Happened to notice this when online looking for something else and couldn't help but love the bear pillow since Rosalyn saw a BEAR at the cabin today!!! https://www.wayfair.com/bed-bath/pdp/eddie-bauer-mountain-100-cotton-reversible-duvet-set-erb1424.html?piid=15234730%2C27324434
P.S. Did you really give birth to those 3 boys???
Wahoo! Wow! What a project! These photos really tell what a HUGE, hot, dirty, nasty, project you and your family did... for the whole Spencer Cornwall clan! Thank YOU, Thank YOU, Thank YOU, Alvords!!! Thank YOU for your initiative, sweat, generosity and devotion. The photo of Claire in the new crib is precious! And the photo of all the old mattresses stacked up like wilted dominos, should be enlarged and framed and mounted prominently on a cabin wall for all prosperity to see --- for the next 30 years! Thank YOU!!! Love, Lissy
